2014 Festival of Faiths
“Sacred Earth | Sacred Self”

2014 FESTIVAL OF FAITHS

The 19th Annual Festival of Faiths holds a focus on our relationship with nature and how this relationship connects to our faith and daily living. Sacred Earth Sacred Self is our best effort to connect with key existential and spiritual aspects of life, and, on the way, to do some true cost accounting of our situation on Earth.

Speakers at this year’s Festival offer deep perspectives on our current crisis of disharmony and how we might best bridge the gap between our heads’ and hearts’ desires while helping identify what is most needed.

The Earth is sacred, as are the people of Earth. Earth and Self came forth from the same Sacred Source and have been united through a reciprocal relationship with each other. In our unity, we share a common fate. Human health physically and spiritually depends on a healthy ecosphere, and this, in turn, depends on the kind of relationship that we as sentient human beings create with Earth and all the life that it sustains.

PEACE OF THE WILD THINGS

When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night
at the least sound in fear of what my life
and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake rests
in his beauty on the water,
and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought of
grief.
I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars waiting with their light.
For a time I rest in the grace of the
world,
and am free.
