Director of Donor Experience

The Director of Donor Experience will have a unique opportunity to help secure financial contributions to promote spiritual health and the understanding of interdependence that ultimately leads to stronger communities. The Center for Interfaith Relations (CIR) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that celebrates the diversity of our faith traditions and gives voice to authentic representatives of multiple perspectives and worldviews.

CIR is celebrating 25 years of hosting the Festival of Faiths, a nationally recognized interfaith forum that fosters spiritual health in the context of the world’s most pressing and relevant issues.


The core responsibility of the Director of Donor Experience is to secure donations through a “major gifts” focus, while providing meaning and purpose to donors’ philanthropy. This person will work with the Managing Director and other CIR staff to provide an unmatched level of donor service.

The Director of Donor Experience should possess strong verbal and written communication skills, a high level of interpersonal skills, extraordinary attention to detail, and a significant commitment to personal responsibility for outcomes.

Essential Functions

  • Conduct face-to-face and one-on-one donor conversations to secure financial gifts
  • Support, lead, and steward CIR’s major donors
  • Reach out and engage prospects in the work of CIR
  • Lead a weekly Major Gifts meeting with the Managing Director and Development Associate
  • Participate in a weekly Gift Acknowledgment Meeting and follows up with the appropriate actions
  • Record necessary donor information in CIR’s donor database
  • Use the Festival of Faiths and other gatherings to engage donors and prospects
  • Oversee and participate in grant research and writing
  • Oversee annual campaigns and fundraising projects
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Managing Director

Education and Experience

  • Four-year college degree and 5 to 7 years of donor/client/customer stewardship experience (or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience providing the required knowledge and skills)
  • Knowledge and experience of the “fundraising cycle”

  • Make exceptional use of donor database systems, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Collaborate with team members, managing director, board members, volunteers, donors
  • Manage projects with focus on time management, performance tracking, outcomes and deadlines
  • Use discretion and confidentiality when appropriate

Work Schedule and Benefits

  • Hours flexible and could range from part-time to full-time, depending on candidate
  • 50 percent of the workday should be spent outside the office meeting with donors and prospects
  • Responsibilities may occasionally include extended hours or weekends as needed
