St. Andrew UCC will offer a series of educational programs concerning the three Abrahamic faith traditions in February.
Muslims believe that the words fo the Qur’an were revealed through the agency of Archangel Gabriel to Prophet Muhammad. Following the prohibition in the Ten Commandments, ” You shall not make yourself a carved image or any likeness of anything in heaven or on earth beneath or in the waters under the earth,” (Exodus 20:4), Islamic Art focused on representing the divinely-revealed words of the Qur’an, making Calligraphy the highest of all art forms for Muslims who expressed their love and devotion to God through the immaculate beauty and superb craftsmanship of their artistic work.
On Monday, February 12th, 5:30-7:00pm, Dr. Saleem Seyal, will present a program on Islamic calligraphy. Following his lecture, Dr. Seyal will oversee the audience members trying their own hand at calligraphy.
These programs are presented in partnership with The Salaam Network. If you have questions, please contact Rev Diane Snowa, firstname.lastname@example.org; or 502-254-7178.
